Nike and Hip-Hop Connection
In life, everyone sees the successful results and all too often the struggles
that were the journey to the top are overlooked. Nike started from very
humble beginnings - Phil Knight sold his product in the same way that many
rappers started selling their CDs, from the trunk of his car. As rappers,
we know that it's hard work to market any brand new product and very often we
have to hit the ground running so there's a definite connection between Nike
and Hip-Hop.
In 1959, Phil Knight was a runner at University of Oregon and Bill Bowerman
coached track. Bowerman had a quest to find lighter, more durable racing
shoes for his Oregon runners and Knight was searching for a way to make a living
without having to give up his love of athletics. The passions and desires
of these two men formed an alliance that would plant the seed for one of the
most influential sporting goods companies, Nike in 1972. |
